Cobb County Championships 2019

The Mustangs performed well in the Cobb County Championship Meet, held on January 25th, and January 26th, at the Mountain View Aquatic Center. This meet was a state qualifying meet, and all the teams in Cobb County attended.

On Friday (the Prelims), the team exited school early, and the team swam very well all day long. The men and ladies won several races, and several records were broken. Expectations were high going into Saturday's finals. On Saturday (the finals), tensions were high, not only on the seams of the technical suits the swimmers were wearing, but also on the faces of the swimmers and coaches. The team started warming up at 4:30 PM, and the meet started promptly at 6 PM.

The meet was exciting to watch. There were several back and forth battles. The Mustangs won, and lost a few of these battles. At the end of the night, we knew Kennesaw swam well, but the question was, "just how well?"

Here are the highlights of the event.

Kennesaw Mountain won the overall team medal count with fifteen (15) medals. This is the first time ever that we have won the most medals at a county championship!

We set 5 new school records and and won 7 County titles. We also won the medal count, which means we had the most finishes in the top 3 than any other team (with the girls winning the medal count and winning 5 Gold medals). The boy finished 2nd for the first time in 10 years. We finished 3rd as a team with one of our higest point totals ever.

The women won the medal count with eight (8); with five (5) being Gold (three more than the closest team). The men tied for 2nd in the medal count with seven (7) medals total.

Karsten Dixon set a new county meet diving record with a score of 532.85 points. Both Karsten, Braden Hester( placing 2nd), and Kyler Dixon (placed 3rd); all had diving scores that will earn them High School All-American consideration.
